Worship Matters --- Singing of the Gospel

I've started following a new blog called "Worship Matters," by Bob Kauflin.

I'm not a worship leader, I don't even play one on TV.  But I am in close contact with the worship band at church and am friends with the worship leader, have been on a worship team, and like to pretend I could lead worship if needed.  This blog has been really inspiring to me and my heart in the time of worship.  I really like what it has to say today about the cross and Gospel being the focus of our worship time, because it's the center of our salvation story.

I can't really say it any better than he did, so I'll just leave you with a taste of it.   Feel free to hop on over to Worship Matters and read the entry for yourself.  Really good, deep, meaningful stuff in there.

The gospel is not merely one of many possible themes we can touch on as we come to worship God. It is the central and foundational theme. All our worship originates and is brought into focus at the cross of Jesus Christ.
Glorying in Jesus Christ means glorying in his cross. That doesn’t mean looking at some icon or two pieces of wood nailed together. Nor does it imply that every song we sing has the word cross in it. It has little to do with church gatherings that are more like a funeral than a celebration.
The cross stands for all that was accomplished through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God. It focuses on his substitutionary death at Calvary but includes everything that gave meaning to that act. His preexistent state in glory. His incarnation. His life of perfect obedience. His suffering. His resurrection. His ascension. His present intercession and reign in glory. His triumphant return.

Going through old photos.......

This is Kymberly, my step-daughter, and Alexandra, my niece.

I LOVE this photo.  Easter weekend, last year, we gathered up in Ft Bragg.  I love the ocean and wanted to go take fun photos of the waves, so we went to a local beach.

The girls were being lovey and sweet together, so I took some photos of them too.  I love seeing them together.  They don't know how lucky they are to have each other and be around each other so much.

A World of Thanks

Looking around our house, it's obvious that Audrey is not lacking for anything.  She has a full toybox, lots of clothes, blankets coming out our ears, 3 places to sleep, so many chairs we trip over them.

And yet, we've had to purchase almost nothing for her.

Family and friends have given us handmedowns, bought us things as they seem them, loaned us items.  It's amazing at how lucky we are to be surrounded by so many loving people helping us out.

I hope we can do the same in the future.

In the meantime, we are incredibly thankful for God's provisions being shown in the generosity of others.

i h eart faces - texture

This week's theme for iheartfaces is texture. I don't have a photo editing software, so I created texture with my background. This is just a simple, soft blanket I like to use for Audrey's photos. I love how the different fuzzies reflect the light and add depth and dimension. And of course, who can dislike that face! This was Audrey at 5 months.

More texture and faces can be seen at the iheartfaces blog.

Afternoon at the Park

After a week of heavy rainstorm, we finally had some sunshine in the bay area. We took advantage of that sun and took a walk as a family (Josh, Audrey, Sheila [the dog] and myself) to the park. Not many people visit the park after it rains because water pools on all the equipment. It's no fun swinging on a wet swing, or being the behind that dries off the slide. But we dried off the swing and Audrey had a great time. We walked around the equipment and bounced around. Looked at all the various activities available. And of course we took some photos.

I hope this is the first of many family walks and trips to the park.

"yeah"

Audrey has a new "word" the last couple days. After everything we
say, she says, "yeah." It's a very decisive yeah. Sometimes she
looks like she is thinking hard about the answer, and then finally
says it.

"Audrey, did you have fun today?"
"Yeah!"

"did you dirty your diaper?"
"Yeah."

"Do you love Mommy?"
No reply.

"Do you love sister?"
"yeah."

"Do you love Daddy?"
Thinks hard ... "Yeah."

"Do you love Mommy?"
Looks around, rolls over. Finally, "yeah."

Happy Mommy. Happy Daddy. Cute baby.

Play time

I love sitting and watching her play. She digs for a block. Gets it out. Inspects it for awhile. Then digs for another block. Sometimes she bangs the blocks together, sometimes she looks at them. then one or both get dropped to the floor and she starts digging again.

I can just picture the hamsters in her head running hard spinning the gears of her brain.

"Do these go together?"
"I saw the big kids stick them together. How did they do that?"
"Maybe this one is the magic piece."
"what happens if I do this?"
"Oooh ... pretty!!!"
"Why does this one rattle but the other one doesn't?"
"This one is shaped differently ... maybe it's special."

It's amazing how content she is just looking at the blocks and trying to figure out how they work. How excited and happy and thrilled she'll be when she finally does figure out how to put them together and build a tower.

iheartfaces "We Are Family"

This photo was just taken (with timer) over the weekend at Pacific Star Winery in Fort Bragg, CA. We wanted a picnic at the ocean. It was rainy and cold, but the waves crashing on the cliff were AMAZING! We all bundled up and suffered through a cold lunch, protecting our sandwiches with soggy paper plates, and huddling together to keep each other warm. We watched the waves crash in hoping to see a whale on it's migratory path. It was the first time that the entire family was together since baby Audrey was born, and it was a blast!!!!

Family consists of Nana Linda and Papa Ed; children Josh with wife Christine, Becky, Sarah with partner Keja; grandchildren Andrew, Alexandra, Kymberly and Audrey.

More family photos can be see at iheartfaces.

Contemplative Audrey

I've been looking at this photo today and I just LOVE it. It's making me really smile.

I took it on Sunday, this week, to show off the new dress she was wearing. I think she was looking down playing with her dress.

She looks so contemplative and full of thought. What is she thinking about????? She has a half smile on her face, so she is happy about whatever it is that she's thinking.
