What's, uh, happenin'? - 4/17/09

New/Noteworthy:
Our landlord bought us new floors; and we got them installed this week. They are AWESOME!

We painted the bathroom a few weeks ago too. That was fun. I really like the new color.

Interesting Activity:
Preparing for and living in a house getting new flooring is interesting.

Also since my last big post we went to Josh's mom's for Easter weekend, where we saw his sister from CT (in addition to everyone else). They surprised me with a baby shower. That was fun. We also went to the beach for a picnic lunch, and I went with Becky to get a tattoo.

And we all (me, Josh, Kymberly) have been sick this week. Coughing, stuffy, achey, fever .... YAY!!!!

Biggest Accomplishment:
Put the house back together with the new floors

Where We Went:
Fort Bragg
Lamaze
Becky took us to Costco. That was a lot of fun. We haven't had a trip there in awhile.

What I Learned:
Practiced pushing at Lamaze last week
Learned positions for laboring and relaxation

Weekend Plans:
pack my bag for the hospital
relax
enjoy the new floors and the nice weather

Fun Photos:
I've taken so many photos I just don't know where to start.

I'll give you this photo, and then link you to flickr for all the fun photos I've posted.

You can't really see them here, but I've started to get stretch marks. :(

I've also developed rashes on my legs. It's very weird; and they ITCH!!!!!

dates

I've been told I have a memory for dates and numbers. It never really struck me as anything unique, until time and time again people would wonder how I remember so-and-so's birthday or date that I got my hair cut. I don't know how I do it, but I do. Until recently, I never used a calendar for appointments or anything, because I just remembered. And now I only use it for posterity, I usually don't need the reminder.

At any rate...
I'm going through data in our database today at work and am looking at install dates and inactivation dates and replacement dates of the product in the field. Every so often I get a date and I say, "Oh .. that's B_____'s birthday," or "Oh .. mom and dad's anniversary," or, "oh how fun ... that was the day that we had the company picnic."

It takes a mundane, tedious and rather painful task and gives me a fun jog down memory lane when I encounter a familiar date.

So this ability of mine to remember dates has proven useful, yet again.

Thankful thursday

This week, Josh and I participated in a food challenge. Our pastor challenged us to eat the same types of foods and in the same portions as those in less privileged parts of the world. I modified the menu to account for my being pregnant.

We gave up anything processed and anything that might be considered a luxury. Its been tough. Tomorrow is the last day.

With the money that we saved on food and beverages, a fund was created at church to go to ministries for food and water for these places.

So this Thursday, I'm thankful for the food and related things that we in the U.S. have.

flowers

Inspiration struck me yesterday when I took the trash out and had to take some photos of my flower bed.

I am not an active gardener. I may pick weeds once/month or so. I have absolutely no part in the fact that any of these plants are living. When things get overgrown (the rose bushes, the vines...), I may go out and trim them back. But for the most part, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just thrilled that I'm seeing flowers on these plants. I hope the rest bloom later.

At any rate, I took about 30 photos at various angles and zooms and such and think I got a couple cool shots. None of them were what I was really looking for, but I think they are OK. Maybe if I can get some film in my SLR I can go out there again and see what I can do.

Insomnia

Being pregnant, I'm getting used to not sleeping through the night. Good practice for when the baby is born.

The last few nights, I've woken up around 1:30 or 2 and laid away in bed for up to 2 hours tossing and turning trying to fall back asleep. Last night I had a memory of not being able to sleep when I was growing up.

I was probably 7 or 8. I was put to bed at bedtime and just laid there not sleeping for an hour or so. I got up and went to the living room to tell mom that I couldn't sleep. Normally she would tell me to go back to bed, but this night was different. She turned the TV off and let me sit on the couch with her cuddling. She pulled out a book, "The Golden Treasury of Children's Literature," and read to me. I vividly remember the voices that she did of the Tar baby and Brair Rabbit. Stories that today would probably be considered inappropriate and banned from elementary school libraries. They were fun and I enjoyed reading them with mom.

Weekly Happenings - Happy April!

New/Noteworthy:
Not really for me, but I'm so proud of him I just have to brag.
Josh started playing softball for the church softball team.
He also talked with the new worship pastor of the church and is going to start playing drums for the church after we're finished with our Lamaze class.

Interesting Activity:
Softball practice on Sunday afternoon
Softball game on Monday night (they won 6-3)

Biggest Accomplishments:
Got bills paid tonight with no arguing.
OK, we usually don't argue. But we still did it and I consider that an accomplishment.

Also sent off the first of MANY tax payments tonight.

I also talked with my boss today about my maternity leave. That was a conversation I was dreading, so that's an accomplishment.

Where We Went:
Went to Guitar Center (and didn't buy anything)
Went to Lamaze
Went to church
Went to softball
I tutored

What I Learned:
Learned two techniques of relaxation breathing, and a position for coach to be in to help relax.

Weekend Plans:
Touring the hospital tomorrow.
Sunday going to Costco with Becky (Josh's sister).

Fun Photos:

These are a few photos from the softball game last Monday.

Thankful Thursday - 100th Post

Happy April.

I'm very thankful for April ... it's that much closer to my due date. (I'm 33 weeks and 4 days today ... due date is May 17.)

I'm also thankful for the sunshine and the warm weather. We've been able to spend so much time with the dog outside and have been enjoying doing yardwork other outdoor activities.

This is the 100th post of my Contemplations. How 'bout that. :) If I were a TV Show I'd have an episode twice as long as usual.

I'm thankful for the little baby growing inside of me. It's so much fun when she starts kicking and jabbing at me. It's neat to be interacting with my little daughter before she's even born. I just can't wait to meet her ... although for her health and safey, she can stay inside me a little longer.
