Oakland prepares to remember 4 fallen officers

I'm not sure how much this is making national news, but it's all over our news.  Last week, a parolee was out on the run in Oakland and shot and killed 4 cops.  It's a VERY sad story.  3 of the officers died on the scene.  The fourth was able to be taken to the hospital and kept on life support long enough to keep his organs viable for transplant.  His organs saved four lives.

Today is the funeral service for these four men.  The city of Oakland, and really teh whole bay area, will be effectively shut down while this happens.  Non-local cops are coming to patrol the streets during the activities, so that the grieving officers can attend the service and have a chance to grieve.  LAPD S.W.A.T is up here doing stuff, officers from Canada, etc.  It's really interesting to see how the community has come together in a time like this.

Flags have been at half-mast everywhere this week in honor of the fallen men.

Here's just one article on the subject.
